Santa Maria Novella

Santa Maria Novella was begun in 1279 by the Dominican order. Crowds gathered to hear the speeches of St. Peter the Martyr, who was responsible for persecuting many heretics. Near the end of the 15th century, Ghirlandaio covered the walls of the chapel with scenes from the life of John the Baptist, and Masaccio's "Trinity" from 1427 is still on the walls of the church. The Chiostro Verde (Green Cloister) is the more incredible of the church's two cloisters.
